Some Frequently Asked Questions about Therapy…
How do I know if this is for me?
When we first make contact, we can arrange a brief conversation over the phone about why you are considering counselling and make an initial appointment.
What should I expect from the initial consultation?
You will be asked some basic information, after which we will evaluate your needs and present situation. The first session is a stand alone session with no obligation to continue. This session gives you the opportunity to check if I am the right person for you. If you decide to go forward, we then talk about options for a treatment plan. Sessions are normally on a weekly basis, on a day and time convenient for both of us.
How long will treatment take?
I offer both short-term focused therapy which is a minimum of 12-18 sessions, as well as long-term open-ended therapy in which we have more time to address the roots of your depression and issues. We discuss this at the initial consultation and it can be reviewed at any time during the sessions.
Are the sessions confidential?
All sessions are confidential, as outlined in the BACP code of ethics. The only exception is if there is an imminent risk to yourself or someone else who is vulnerable, in which case I will discuss it with you first before breaking confidentiality.
How long and when are the sessions?
The sessions are 50 minutes long and usually take place on the same day and time each week. I work flexible hours.
